There’s a lot of buzz circulating around Costco potentially opening a location in Foley, Alabama, and as a Gulf Coast real estate advisor, I’ve been following the story.
According to community chatter—particularly on Facebook and in local conversations—residents speculate that the wholesale retailer may be planning to build behind the new hotel near Highway 59 and next to Culver’s. The area makes sense: high traffic, new development nearby, and a growing population in southern Baldwin County.
However, as of today, no official filings or announcements have been made by the City of Foley or Costco. A review of cityoffoley.org confirms there have been no zoning or planning submissions related to a Costco location.
That said, major commercial developments like Costco often begin with site studies and informal negotiations long before anything is made public. So, while nothing is confirmed, there’s reason to believe something could be quietly taking shape behind the scenes.
✅ Confirmed: Costco Coming to Pensacola
While Foley remains unconfirmed, a Costco location in Pensacola, Florida is officially in motion. Plans have been submitted to Escambia County for a 172,580 square foot store on a 22-acre site near Nine Mile Road and Chemstrand Road.
This development is in review with the Escambia Development Review Committee and will serve a wide portion of the Gulf Coast, including many Baldwin County residents who currently drive to Mobile for their Costco needs.
For those of us living and working in Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, or Foley, the Pensacola store will be the closest confirmed Costco once it opens—and it's likely to further increase traffic and real estate demand across the Florida-Alabama line.
Why It Matters for Baldwin County
If the rumored Foley location does materialize, it would have a significant impact on the surrounding area. In addition to offering more shopping convenience for residents, a new Costco could drive:
-
Higher nearby property values
-
Increased commercial and residential development
-
Expanded job opportunities and economic growth
As an advisor focused on real estate investment and Gulf Coast lifestyle, I always keep an eye on anchor retail projects like this. They tend to elevate entire communities and offer long-term growth for smart buyers.
What I’m Watching
I’ll continue tracking any updates on the Foley location and share news as soon as it’s official. In the meantime, the Pensacola project confirms Costco’s expansion into our region, which is great news for Gulf Coast residents on both sides of the state line.
If you’re considering investing in Foley, Orange Beach, or surrounding areas, now is the time to look closely. This is a market with momentum—and opportunities like this only add fuel to the growth.
