Living on Ono Island isn’t just about the stunning waterfront views or the boating lifestyle—it’s also about the people. Yesterday’s monthly Ono Island Cornhole event was a perfect reminder of how special this community really is.
Organized by a rotating group of neighbors, the cornhole gatherings typically take place in someone’s home or backyard. But this month, with weather rolling in, we moved it to the HCC —a fabulous space that serves as the island’s hub for HOA meetings, social events, and more. With its well-equipped kitchen, spacious indoor area, and a covered patio overlooking the island’s serene surroundings, it was the perfect backup venue.
And what a turnout we had.
Neighbors, friends, and visiting family all came together under the covered patio where a true Southern tradition was waiting: an old-school crawfish boil served out of a john boat. Only on Ono! The mix of spicy crawfish, juicy corn-on-the-cob, new potatoes, citrus, and seasoning was just what we needed—and it brought everyone together in the most down-to-earth way.
Adding to the festive atmosphere was none other than The Chris Earle Band, who performed live and brought such great energy to the party. From their soulful covers to upbeat originals, the music had people tapping their toes and smiling from ear to ear.
These social club gatherings are what make living on Ono Island so unique. Whether you're a full-time resident or spend just part of the year here, there are countless opportunities to plug in, have fun, and meet new friends. I always say—you can be as social as you want on Ono. From monthly events like cornhole and potlucks to fishing tournaments and holiday gatherings, there’s truly something for everyone.
