As a homeowner and real estate advisor here on Ono Island, I always enjoy introducing clients to the unique neighborhoods that make this island so special. One of my personal favorites is Ono North—a gated residential area tucked away near the island’s north side that blends natural surroundings with fantastic amenities. Whether you’re moving here full-time or looking for a second home on the water, Ono North offers a well-rounded lifestyle that’s both private and community-driven.
When you purchase a home in Ono North, you’ll become part of the Ono North Property Owners Association, managed from the office inside the Ono North Recreation Center at 31000 Harbour Drive. One of the first things I recommend to new homeowners is stopping by the POA office with a copy of your deed. They’ll provide your key card for access to the recreation center—and you can purchase additional cards for just $10.
Before you begin any exterior work or renovations, always check in with the POA. They’ll let you know if a permit is required and guide you through any architectural review processes.
To access governing documents, covenants, or board meeting updates, you can visit: community.dwellinglive.com and select “My Community,” then navigate to the Ono North POA section. This is where you’ll find bylaws, rules and regulations, and important updates for both Phase I and Phase II.
The Ono North Rec Center is a true highlight of the neighborhood. It’s open daily from 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and offers a variety of amenities for homeowners and their guests. Your yearly HOA dues grant you access to:
An 80 x 40 outdoor pool
A heated indoor pool (40 x 20) for year-round use
Three separate fitness rooms with over 25 workout machines
5 tennis courts and 2 pickleball courts
A full basketball court
Seasonal classes, including water aerobics and tennis lessons from a local pro
If you don’t live in Ono North or Ono Harbour, you can still enjoy the Rec Center with an annual household membership for $600, which includes up to 4 invited guests. That breaks down to just $50 per month—a great value for such comprehensive amenities.
Here are a few important reminders I share with clients and friends:
Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Glass containers are strictly prohibited at the Rec Center, especially near the pool areas.
During lightning or storms, please wait at least 20 minutes after the last sign of thunder before reentering the water.
Always close umbrellas and slide patio doors shut when leaving the outdoor pool area.
Ice is available for purchase inside the Rec for $2 per 8-lb bag.
Security cameras are active throughout the center for your safety.
One of the things that makes Ono North stand out is its balance between structure and serenity. You’re surrounded by nature—common area wilderness zones buffer the homes, adding privacy and peaceful views—yet you have access to resort-style amenities that make everyday life feel like a vacation.
The homes here follow thoughtful architectural guidelines, with a minimum of 1,200 square feet of living space, 240-square-foot porches, and enclosed two-car garages. Many properties are valued well into the million-dollar range, reflecting the quality and location. It’s a neighborhood that continues to attract discerning buyers looking for both lifestyle and value.
If you’re considering buying or selling in Ono North or anywhere on Ono Island, I’d love to share my insights as both a resident and a real estate advisor. Whether you need help navigating the HOA, reviewing covenants, or preparing your home for sale, I’m here to help you every step of the way.

THE BOATER’S FIELD MANUAL TO ONO ISLAND’S SIX CANALS
How boats actually reach these canals
If your dock is on the north side of Ono Island, your boat lives on water that empties directly into Bayou St. John. From there you run east or west—Perdido Pass, Terry Cove, Cotton Bayou, and the Perdido…
