As a real estate advisor and resident of Orange Beach, I know how important it is for homeowners and future buyers to feel confident about the area’s infrastructure—especially when it comes to something as essential as drinking water. Fortunately, the 2024 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report confirms what many of us already know: Orange Beach isn’t just beautiful, it’s built on a foundation of safety, quality, and care.
Whether you’re buying a new home or living in one of the waterfront properties on Ono Island, you can rest easy knowing our water supply is clean, reliable, and consistently well-managed.
Our water is sourced from nine municipal wells—two on the island and seven on the mainland. It’s stored across several major tanks, including:
A 1-million-gallon tank at the Orange Beach Water Authority Office
A 1-million-gallon tank on Canal Road
A 1-million-gallon tank on Ono Island
A 1-million-gallon tank on Roscoe Road
And a massive 6-million-gallon tank on Hwy 161
These facilities utilize filtration, aeration, and chemical treatment to ensure the water meets EPA and ADEM standards every step of the way.
Here’s what stood out in this year’s report:
No violations of maximum contaminant levels (MCLs)—all water samples met or exceeded safety requirements
Zero detection of E. coli, arsenic, lead, mercury, or volatile organic compounds
Nitrate/Nitrite levels: 0.65 ppm (well below the MCL of 10 ppm)
Low disinfection byproducts: Haloacetic Acids (HAA5) at 3.40 ppb and Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) at 16.00 ppb
Copper levels: No action level exceedances in household plumbing
Water pH: 6.40
Total hardness (as CaCO₃): 12.80 ppm, placing Orange Beach in the soft-to-moderately-hard water range
Safe, soft water is not only better for your health—it’s easier on your appliances, plumbing systems, and fixtures. For anyone looking to buy a home in Orange Beach, it’s one more reason to invest here with confidence.
Whether you’re eyeing a luxury condo near The Wharf or a boater-friendly home on Ono Island, high-quality drinking water adds value and peace of mind to your investment.
The Orange Beach Water, Sewer & Fire Protection Authority invites public participation and holds meetings on the third Thursday of every month at 5:00 p.m.:
???? 25097 Canal Road, Orange Beach, AL 36561
I always encourage my clients and neighbors to attend when possible—it’s a great way to stay connected with our growing and well-managed coastal community.
Want to learn more about how Orange Beach’s infrastructure supports its exceptional coastal lifestyle? I’ve created dozens of local guides, community spotlights, and real estate listings on the Gulf Coast to help you make the most informed decision.
Let me know if you'd like a curated list of properties near Ono Island, The Wharf, or along Canal Road with quick access to both the water and the Water Authority's most up-to-date improvements.
