2026 Orange Beach Billfish Classic: Where Sportfishing, Boats, and Waterfront Real Estate Meet

Orange Beach Alabama Fishing Tournaments Billfish Classic

The Orange Beach Billfish Classic is one of those Gulf Coast events that feels bigger than a tournament. It is part competition, part tradition, part boating culture, and part real estate story. When the big sportfishing boats start arriving, the docks take on a different rhythm. You hear the engines, see the outriggers, notice the crews moving with purpose, and feel the energy build around The Wharf, Perdido Pass, and the waterfront communities that make Orange Beach so special.

The 30th Annual Orange Beach Billfish Classic is scheduled for May 12–16, 2026 at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama. For many anglers, captains, boat…

Fishing Tournaments in Orange Beach, Alabama for 2026: My Local Guide to the Season

Orange Beach Fishing Tournaments

By Meredith Folger Amon, Licensed in Alabama and Florida

Tournament season is one of the most exciting times of year along Orange Beach. The boats are polished, the docks are buzzing, and the weigh-ins bring a kind of energy that reminds me why so many people fall in love with our waterfront lifestyle in the first place. Whether you enjoy serious offshore competition, walking the docks to watch the fleet come in, or searching for a property that keeps you close to the marinas and the water, this is one of the most electric stretches of the year on the Gulf Coast.

A NOTE ON TIDES AND WIND IN ORANGE BEACH’S BACK BAYS

Orange Beach Alabama Back Bays Fishing and Boating

One thing I like to explain early to buyers, boaters, and anyone new to our waters is that the back bays of Orange Beach do not behave like places with dramatic tidal swings. Around here, the tide matters, but the wind often matters more.

That catches people off guard. They assume the tide chart alone will tell the whole story. In my experience, it does not. A sustained north wind can pull water out of the bays quickly enough to expose flats, tighten up shallow routes, and make oyster bars feel much closer than they did the day before. A strong south wind can push water back in and make the same area feel far more forgiving.

That is why…

Why the 2026 Bertram 34CC Works So Well in Orange Beach, Alabama

Bertram 34CC Boats and Fishing Orange Beach Alabama

A neighbor recently shared this helm-running shot from a day on the water off Orange Beach, and it made me smile because it captures exactly what I hear from serious boaters here. The right boat is not just about a brand name. It is about how it runs in our Gulf conditions, how it handles quick weather changes, and how it fits the day-to-day reality of docks, slips, and getting in and out with confidence.

The South | Alabama Gulf Coast | Beaches, Boats, and Beautiful Homes

What Is the Prettiest Beach in Alabama

Alabama Prettiest Beach Oceanfront Along the Alabama Gulf Coast, “prettiest beach” is not a single coordinate. It is a moment. It is the hush before sunrise when the Gulf looks like brushed glass. It is the scent of bay brine drifting in on a light south wind, the soft scratch of sea oats in the dunes, and that unmistakable sugar-white sand that makes even a simple walk feel like a small ceremony of the South.

I get asked this question often, especially by buyers exploring the coast for the first time. They want the most beautiful shoreline, and they also want the lifestyle that comes with it: boating, fishing, an evening porch view, a place that…

Grady-White Boats Orange Beach Alabama Gulf Coast

The Grady-White Fisherman 180 is one of those boats that quietly earns loyalty. It’s sized for real fishing, yet still easy to store, tow, and dock around Orange Beach and Ono Island. When neighbors describe the appeal, they usually land on the same point: it “yields timeless elegance” in build quality while staying practical for everyday Gulf Coast use.

Beam 7’5”

Federal Red Snapper Season Reopens for Charter Boats: What It Means for Gulf Coast Anglers

Along the Alabama Gulf Coast, red snapper season is a big part of our rhythm on the water. Friends who run charter boats out of Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Dauphin Island often tell me that the snapper opener feels like another holiday on the calendar. This year, that “holiday” is getting a quiet but important encore.

NOAA Fisheries has announced that the federal red snapper season for federally permitted for-hire vessels (charter and headboats) in the Gulf of Mexico is reopening to close out 2025. After reviewing updated landings data, scientists determined that anglers did not catch the full federal for-hire allocation during the primary season, so…

Orange Beach Sportfishing Club Raises Over 25,000 Dollars for Charity in 2025

Orange Beach Sportfishing Club Raises Over 25,000 Dollars for Charity in 2025

Orange Beach, Alabama has a way of blending fun on the water with a deep sense of purpose. In 2025, the Orange Beach Sportfishing Club showed exactly how powerful that combination can be. Through its charity tournaments, the club turned early-morning launches, weigh-ins, and dockside stories into more than 25,000 dollars in support for children’s health and ocean conservation.

As a Gulf Coast real estate advisor who spends a lot of time around our marinas and boat-friendly neighborhoods, I see the same boats that fish these tournaments tied up behind homes and condos all along the…

Orange Beach Condos with Deeded Boat Slips: How to Match Your Boat to the Marina

Orange Beach Alabama Condo Boating and Slips

Why Deeded Boat Slips Matter for Orange Beach Condo Buyers

One of the most common questions I hear when showing waterfront condos in Orange Beach is, “What size boat can this slip really handle?” On the Gulf Coast, especially along Ole River, Cotton Bayou, and the back bays, a deeded or limited common boat slip can be just as important as the condo itself. It is your private “driveway” to the water.

On Orange Beach condos with deeded slips, the marina is typically part of the association, and individual slips are either:

  • Deeded directly to your unit (limited common element), or
  • Separately deeded and transferred along with the condo or as its own…

Orange Beach Winter Fishing Guide 2025–2026: Boats, Bites, and Boater-Friendly Homes

Orange Beach Alabama Fishing and Boater-Friendly Homes

On a crisp winter morning in Orange Beach, the water takes on a different energy. The summer boat traffic is gone, the air feels cleaner, and you can hear the sound of a single drag peeling across the bay. Winter 2025–2026 is shaping up to be an excellent season for anglers along the Alabama Gulf Coast, and I am already hearing from neighbors, friends, and local captains who are quietly enjoying some of the best inshore and surf fishing of the year.

In this guide, I am sharing how I think about winter fishing across our coastline: which fish to target, where I like to focus time, the types of boats that perform best in shallow winter water, and how…
