Orange Beach Waterfront Living
Lighthouse on the Bay Condos: Architecture, Amenities, Boat Slips & Unit Number Guide
A closer look at the residences, protected harbor, private lighthouse, sandy bayfront beach and boating lifestyle at Lighthouse on the Bay in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Lighthouse on the Bay—formerly known as Phoenix on the Bay II—is a distinctive waterfront condominium community located at 27582 Canal Road in Orange Beach, Alabama. Positioned along Terry Cove, the property combines contemporary coastal architecture, covered parking, resort-style recreation and a protected private marina.
What makes this community especially interesting to me is the way its architecture supports the waterfront lifestyle. The curved residential wings embrace the pool courtyard and marina, while wide balconies and expanses of glass capture views of Terry Cove, the surrounding islands, Perdido Pass and the steady rhythm of boats moving through Orange Beach.
“Lighthouse on the Bay does not feel like a traditional beach condominium tower. Its curved glass, protected harbor and inward-facing waterfront courtyard give it a more residential, yacht-club-like atmosphere.”

Design & Construction
Contemporary Architecture Designed Around the Water
Completed in 2007, Lighthouse on the Bay is an eight-story, 104-residence development constructed with a poured-in-place reinforced-concrete exterior. Solid concrete partition walls separate the residences, contributing to the building’s substantial structural character and providing greater separation than many lighter construction systems.
The building’s white and soft-gray exterior is paired with green-tinted glass, rounded residential sections and broad curved balconies. A tall glass-enclosed central element visually connects the building’s wings and creates a striking architectural focal point.
Curved Balconies
Rounded balconies create broader viewing angles across the pools, marina, Terry Cove and Perdido Pass.
Expansive Glass
Large windows and glass doors bring natural light into the residences while emphasizing the surrounding water views.
Concrete Construction
Poured-in-place reinforced concrete and solid concrete partition walls give the building a substantial coastal profile.
Protected Courtyard
The residential wings embrace the pool deck, creating a sheltered amenity setting that remains visually connected to the marina.
Finding Your Way
How Lighthouse on the Bay Unit Numbers Work
The four-digit unit numbers can initially be confusing, but the system becomes much easier once the number is divided into three parts.
The First Digit: Building II
The first digit is 2, reflecting the property’s original name, Phoenix on the Bay II.
The Second Digit: Floor Number
The second digit identifies the floor on which the residence is located.
| Unit Prefix | Floor |
|---|---|
| 21XX | First floor |
| 22XX | Second floor |
| 23XX | Third floor |
| 24XX | Fourth floor |
| 25XX | Fifth floor |
| 26XX | Sixth floor |
| 27XX | Seventh floor |
| 28XX | Eighth or top floor |
The Final Two Digits: Unit Stack
The final two digits identify the residence’s vertical stack or position within the building. Condos ending in the same two digits are generally located directly above and below one another and have similar orientations.
If you like the orientation and floor plan of a particular residence, search for other units with the same final two digits. For example, residences ending in 09 occupy the same general stack at different elevations.

A Practical Stack-Location Guide
Lighthouse on the Bay curves around its waterfront courtyard, with two distinct residential wings connected by a central glass hallway core.
- Stacks 01–10: Located along the longer west wing. Stack 01 begins beside the central glass core, with the numbers continuing westward around the curved building to Stack 10. These residences are reached by exterior, open-air hallways.
- Central glass hallway core: This section contains no residences. It connects the building’s circulation areas and marks the transition between the west and east residential wings.
- Stack 11: Located immediately east of the glass hallway core. This is the first of the building’s three broad, directly south-facing residential stacks.
- Stack 12: Occupies the center position within the east wing, with a direct southern orientation overlooking the pool courtyard, protected harbor, marina and Terry Cove.
- Stack 13: Forms the easternmost residential stack. Like Stacks 11 and 12, it faces south toward the waterfront amenities and Terry Cove.
Stacks 11–13 are served by fully enclosed, windowed hallways, while Stacks 01–10 are accessed from exterior hallways. Understanding this distinction can be helpful when comparing a residence’s location, elevator access, weather exposure, views and walking route from the parking garage.
Exact stack locations, floor plans and view orientations should be confirmed with the official association site plan before purchasing.
Space & Views
Residence Sizes and Floor Plans
Lighthouse on the Bay includes a variety of two- and three-bedroom floor plans. Some residences are designed for easy vacation use, while the larger corner and pod residences offer the scale that many buyers prefer for full-time or extended-season living.
Larger residences may include wraparound balconies, additional exterior storage, wet bars, expansive primary suites and water views from multiple rooms. The unit’s stack is just as important as its floor because the building’s curved design creates noticeably different outlooks from one section to another.
Waterfront Recreation
Lazy River, Pools and Resort Amenities
The residential wings embrace a landscaped waterfront courtyard centered around the outdoor swimming areas. The curved architecture gives the courtyard a protected feeling while preserving views toward the marina and Terry Cove.
A Quiet Place by the Water
Small Bayfront Beach Area
Lighthouse on the Bay includes a small private bayfront beach area along Terry Cove. This sandy shoreline provides owners and guests with a convenient place to enjoy the water beside the marina and fishing pier. Although it is not comparable in size or character to the Gulf’s expansive beaches, it adds another enjoyable waterfront feature to the complex. Buyers should confirm the beach boundaries, access rights and association policies as part of their due diligence.
Private Lighthouse Gathering Space
One of the most distinctive amenities at Lighthouse on the Bay is the private lighthouse positioned at the entrance to the marina. Owners may reserve this intimate waterfront space for gatherings and special occasions in accordance with association policies.
The lighthouse includes an interior fireplace and provides a memorable setting beside Terry Cove—an inviting place for owners to gather while enjoying the marina and surrounding Orange Beach waterways.
Availability, occupancy limits, fees, parking, guest policies and reservation requirements should be confirmed directly with the Lighthouse on the Bay association before making plans.
For Boaters
Private Marina and Protected Harbor
The private marina is one of the defining features of Lighthouse on the Bay. It sits directly in front of the condominium within a protected harbor, allowing owners to keep their boats close to their residences while maintaining convenient access to Terry Cove.
From the marina, boaters can cruise the surrounding back bays, visit waterfront restaurants, explore nearby islands and navigate toward Perdido Pass for access to the Gulf.
Protected Dockage
The interior harbor provides separation from the more open waters of Terry Cove.
Fishing Facilities
A strengthened dock, fish-cleaning station and waterfront benches support the fishing lifestyle.
Water & Power
Select slips include freshwater and electrical service for added boating convenience.
Perdido Pass Access
The marina connects with Terry Cove and the boating route toward Perdido Pass and the Gulf.
Deeded Boat Slips
Some Lighthouse on the Bay condominiums convey with deeded boat slips inside the harbor. One slip configuration measures approximately 7 feet 9 inches wide by 39 feet 11 inches long and includes a nearby storage closet for boating gear. Fees for this particular slip have been quoted at $69 per month.
Other residences have conveyed with designated slips equipped with substantial boat lifts, including a 20,000-pound lift. A slip positioned front and center along the dock can provide convenient access when preparing for a day on the water or returning from the Gulf.
Boat slips are individually owned and do not automatically accompany every condominium. Some convey with a residence, while others may be purchased independently or rented from another slip owner.
I evaluate the condominium and boat slip as two separate parts of the purchase. A beautiful residence may be an excellent fit, but the slip must also accommodate the buyer’s boat, draft, beam, lift requirements and plans for future vessels.
Boat-Slip Questions to Ask
- Does the slip legally convey with the condominium?
- Is it deeded, assigned, separately owned or rented?
- What are the exact length and width?
- What boat length and beam can it accommodate?
- What is the measured water depth at the slip?
- Is a lift installed, and what is its verified capacity?
- Are electrical power and freshwater available?
- Is there a marina storage closet?
- What monthly marina fees or assessments apply?
- Can a condominium renter use the slip?
- What boat and liability insurance is required?
- What are the current trailer-parking and storage rules?
From the Marina to the Gulf
Boating Access Through Terry Cove
The marina connects directly with Terry Cove and the waterways surrounding Orange Beach. The location is well suited for inshore fishing, sunset cruises, dolphin watching, visiting waterfront restaurants and navigating toward Perdido Pass for offshore fishing.
I always look beyond the slip and evaluate the entire boating route. Boat draft, tides, channel depth, bridge clearance, no-wake zones and seasonal shoaling all influence how comfortably a particular vessel will operate.
“The right boating condominium should work from beginning to end—from the parking garage to the residence, from the residence to the slip, and from the protected harbor to Perdido Pass.”
Everyday Convenience
Covered Parking and Rooftop Recreation
Lighthouse on the Bay includes an eight-level covered parking structure with access near the residential floors. This arrangement helps protect vehicles from the elements and makes transporting luggage, groceries and boating equipment more convenient.
The lighted tennis and pickleball courts are positioned on top of the parking structure. It is a creative use of space that preserves more of the waterfront grounds for pools, landscaping, walking areas and marina amenities.
Location
Close to Everything, Comfortably Removed from the Crowds
Lighthouse on the Bay feels tucked away along Canal Road, yet it remains minutes from Orange Beach’s white-sand Gulf beaches, waterfront restaurants, shopping and entertainment.
The setting offers a balance that many buyers appreciate: a quieter home base along Terry Cove with convenient access to the Gulf, marinas, dining and the everyday attractions of Orange Beach.
Understanding Gulf Coast Real Estate
The Search The Gulf Take
Lighthouse on the Bay offers a distinctive combination of protected marina access, contemporary architecture, covered parking and resort amenities in a more residential Canal Road setting.
Its curved balconies and broad expanses of glass give the building a refined identity, while the private marina, sandy beach and lighthouse gathering space create a lifestyle centered around Terry Cove.
The unit-numbering system also becomes much easier once it is separated into building, floor and stack. The second digit identifies the floor, while the final two digits identify the residence’s position within the building. This makes it possible to compare similar floor plans and view orientations across multiple elevations.
For boating buyers, the residence and boat slip should be evaluated together—but never assumed to be the same purchase. Ownership, dimensions, lift capacity, water depth, utilities, storage and marina fees should all be carefully confirmed during due diligence.
