Welcome
I’m Meredith Folger Amon, a Gulf Coast real estate advisor and Ono Island homeowner. Neighbors, friends, and homeowners often ask me how to make launch days effortless at our ramp. Here’s the upbeat, plain-English version I share—focused on what helps everyone have a good experience.
Quick Keys for a Smooth Launch
- Owners & guests only: Our ramp is a neighborhood perk. If you’ll park or leave a trailer, use the owner’s vehicle that carries the RFID tag so you’re set for the day.
- Stage first, launch second: Do your prep—plug, straps, lines, lifejackets—in the designated staging area. When you reach the waterline, you’ll be ready to launch and keep the queue moving.
- Keep lanes clear: Park where vehicles and trailers leave plenty of room for the paved road and turn-around, and avoid blocking others. The ramp area is for active launching and parking with a trailer attached.
- Same-day parking plan: Think “in-and-out” rather than overnight. If you return late, make a quick plan to move your vehicle and trailer by 8:00 a.m. the next morning.
- Launch-only zone: Reserve the ramp and nearby piers for launching and recovery. For safety, swimming, diving, and sunbathing are better enjoyed at home docks or the beach.
- Clean catch, clean ramp: Fillet stations at home or marina facilities keep the ramp tidy and wildlife in balance.
- Recreation over work: The area functions best when it’s used for boating, not for commercial or construction loading.
- Neighborly touches: Early mornings and evenings carry sound. Soft voices, minimized lights, and tidy parking go a long way.
Friendly reminder: The Property Owners Association notes that use is “at your own risk” and may be subject to the Ono Island Rules and Regulations. Posted signs are the most current source, so give them a quick glance each visit.
Boat Fit, Bridge Clearance, and Canal Tips
Part of a great launch is choosing the right home-and-boat pairing. The west-side bridge typically offers about 24 feet of vertical clearance at high tide. Low-profile boats—pontoons, flats skiffs, many bay boats—cruise comfortably in bridge-locked canals. If you run towers or outriggers, we’ll look at big-water lots, lift sizing, and routes to Old River, Bayou St. John, and Perdido Pass together. My broader boating notes live here: Boating Accommodations on the Gulf Coast.
My Launch-Day Checklist
- Arrive staged: Safety gear checked, drain plug in, lines ready.
- Launch with confidence: Back in, float off, and clear the lane promptly.
- Park thoughtfully: Vehicle attached to trailer, parked so others can maneuver.
- Plan the return: If you’ll be off the water late, set a quick reminder to move by 8:00 a.m.
Shopping for a Boat-Friendly Home
Matching a property to your boating style is one of my favorite conversations. From deep-water frontage to protected canal slips, I help you weigh ACC guidelines for piers and boathouses, lift specs, dredging history, and tide considerations—so your daily routine on the water feels effortless. Start with my island overview: Ono Island and recent posts: Ono Island Blog Category. You can also browse nearby markets at Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. www.searchthegulf.com is the Gulf Coast’s premier website for searching listings across the coast.
This friendly guide is meant to help. Rules can evolve, so treat on-site signage and the latest Ono Island Rules and Regulations as your source of truth.
