As a homeowner and real estate advisor on Ono Island, one of the most common questions I receive is:
“Are homes on Ono Island available for rent?”

The answer is yes—some homes on Ono Island can be rented, but with important limitations that all prospective renters and investors should be aware of. If you're considering purchasing a home to rent, or if you're looking for a long-term rental opportunity, here's what you need to know.

Rentals Are Allowed, But with Restrictions

Ono Island is a private, residential island governed by its Property Owners Association (POA). The POA has established rules to maintain the peace, privacy, and residential integrity of the island. That includes clear regulations when it comes to leasing properties.

Short-term rentals (vacation rentals) are strictly prohibited.

To preserve the neighborhood character and minimize turnover and traffic, the minimum rental period is 30 days. That means:

• No nightly or weekend rentals

• No Airbnb or VRBO-style vacation rentals

• Only monthly or longer leases are permitted

These restrictions are part of what makes Ono Island so peaceful, quiet, and appealing to both full-time residents and second-homeowners.

Many homeowners who split time between the Gulf Coast and another residence find that long-term renters—especially seasonal professionals or families relocating—are a great way to keep their property cared for and generate income within the POA’s guidelines.

Just remember:

• You must notify the POA of your intent to lease

• Lease terms must be 30 days or more

• The tenant must comply with all island rules and restrictions
