July Construction Update: 30532 Ono North Loop West, Lot 167 on Ono Island
Ono Island New Construction
Sheet Rock and Mud Bring This Ono Island Home to Life
A July 2026 construction update from this thoughtfully designed new home by builder Steven Crim.
One of my favorite moments during the construction of a new home is the day the sheet rock goes up. Until this stage, the interior is defined primarily by framing, wiring, plumbing and mechanical systems. Once the walls are enclosed, the rooms begin to reveal their true scale, character and sense of place.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, sheet rock was installed throughout this new construction home on Ono Island by builder Steven Crim. The transformation is immediate. The open living spaces are becoming more defined, the architectural ceiling details are easier to appreciate and the natural light begins to interact with the home in an entirely new way.
The photographs show the sheet rock panels installed across the walls and ceilings, with the seams, corners and fastener points covered in joint compound—what builders and drywall crews commonly call mud.
What Is Drywall Mud?
Drywall mud is applied over taped seams, corners and screw or nail locations to create a smooth, continuous surface. The compound is typically applied in several layers, with each coat allowed to dry before the walls and ceilings are carefully sanded and prepared for primer and paint.
The Interior Is Beginning to Take Shape
With the sheet rock in place, it is now much easier to understand the flow between the kitchen, dining area and primary gathering space. The generous window groupings fill the interior with soft coastal light, while the glass exterior door creates a visual connection to the outdoor living areas.
Overhead, the architectural ceiling treatment is emerging as one of the home’s most memorable design features. The dimensional pattern adds depth and quiet character without overwhelming the room. Recessed-light openings have also been carefully positioned throughout the ceiling, indicating a thoughtful lighting plan for both everyday living and entertaining.
Defined Gathering Spaces
The sheet rock makes the relationship between the kitchen, dining and living areas easier to visualize.
Generous Window Groupings
Large windows introduce coastal light while creating an open and welcoming interior atmosphere.
Architectural Detail
The dimensional ceiling treatment adds interest, proportion and a refined sense of craftsmanship.
Planned Recessed Illumination
Numerous recessed-light locations will help provide balanced illumination throughout the open interior.
A Generous Garage for the Ono Island Lifestyle

The garage has also been enclosed with sheet rock, including the walls and ceiling areas. Its generous dimensions provide flexibility for vehicles, golf carts, boating equipment, bicycles and the storage needs that often accompany living near the water.
At this stage, the home is no longer simply a collection of architectural plans and framing. Doorways are defined, individual rooms are recognizable and the locations of future cabinetry, lighting and finish details can be understood more clearly.
Sheet rock has been installed throughout this new construction Ono Island home by builder Steven Crim. Drywall mud has been applied over the taped seams, corners and fastener points as the walls and ceilings move through the finishing process. This important stage reveals the home’s spacious open-concept layout, generous window groupings, architectural ceiling details and thoughtfully planned recessed lighting. The garage has also been enclosed with sheet rock, bringing the home another meaningful step closer to completion.
