Between those moments lies the joy of choice: drift toward Old River or idle through Cotton Bayou; chase a bluewater sunrise through Perdido Pass or anchor behind Robinson Island while the kids cannonball from the swim ladder. Bayou St. John ⇄ Old River (ICW). The magenta line of the Intracoastal is your friend. It threads north of Walker Island, slides past the marinas, and eases you east toward Ono Island and Bellville Bay with consistent depth. When in doubt, stay center-channel and watch the dayboards.
