2026 Orange Beach Billfish Classic: Where Sportfishing, Boats, and Waterfront Real Estate Meet

Orange Beach Alabama Fishing Tournaments Billfish Classic

The Orange Beach Billfish Classic is one of those Gulf Coast events that feels bigger than a tournament. It is part competition, part tradition, part boating culture, and part real estate story. When the big sportfishing boats start arriving, the docks take on a different rhythm. You hear the engines, see the outriggers, notice the crews moving with purpose, and feel the energy build around The Wharf, Perdido Pass, and the waterfront communities that make Orange Beach so special.

The 30th Annual Orange Beach Billfish Classic is scheduled for May 12–16, 2026 at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama. For many anglers, captains, boat…

Fishing Tournaments in Orange Beach, Alabama for 2026: My Local Guide to the Season

Orange Beach Fishing Tournaments

By Meredith Folger Amon, Licensed in Alabama and Florida

Tournament season is one of the most exciting times of year along Orange Beach. The boats are polished, the docks are buzzing, and the weigh-ins bring a kind of energy that reminds me why so many people fall in love with our waterfront lifestyle in the first place. Whether you enjoy serious offshore competition, walking the docks to watch the fleet come in, or searching for a property that keeps you close to the marinas and the water, this is one of the most electric stretches of the year on the Gulf Coast.

A NOTE ON TIDES AND WIND IN ORANGE BEACH’S BACK BAYS

Orange Beach Alabama Back Bays Fishing and Boating

One thing I like to explain early to buyers, boaters, and anyone new to our waters is that the back bays of Orange Beach do not behave like places with dramatic tidal swings. Around here, the tide matters, but the wind often matters more.

That catches people off guard. They assume the tide chart alone will tell the whole story. In my experience, it does not. A sustained north wind can pull water out of the bays quickly enough to expose flats, tighten up shallow routes, and make oyster bars feel much closer than they did the day before. A strong south wind can push water back in and make the same area feel far more forgiving.

That is why…

Gulf Shores New Construction | Fort Morgan Road | Little Lagoon

EDWIN OAKS SUBDIVISION IN GULF SHORES, ALABAMA: WHAT I KNOW SO FAR

Edwin Oaks New Construction Subdivision Gulf Shores Alabama When I evaluate new construction in Gulf Shores, I pay close attention to the smaller, more intentional projects — the ones that are not mass-produced and may offer a more private, coastal-inspired experience. Edwin Oaks appears to be one of those communities.

At the time I am writing this, there are no MLS listings, no released floor plans, and no finalized builder packages available to the public. What I do have is the preliminary subdivision material submitted to the City of Gulf Shores, and even at this early stage, several details stand out.

What immediately caught my attention about…

What Makes a Beach Condo Non-Warrantable in Orange Beach, Alabama, and Why It Matters for Financing

Orange Beach Condo Financing Non-Warrantable Condos and Condo-Tels

When I help buyers look at Orange Beach condos, one financing term that comes up more often than people expect is non-warrantable. It sounds more alarming than it needs to, but it does matter. In simple terms, a non-warrantable condo is a condominium project that does not fit the underwriting box lenders use for standard agency-style condo financing. The condo itself may still be desirable. The financing path is simply narrower, more detailed, and often more expensive.

Along Alabama’s Gulf Coast, this issue is especially relevant because many beach and waterfront condo communities have a mix of second homes, investment…

CURRENT PROPERTY LISTINGS ON ONO ISLAND

What I’m Seeing Right Now in the Ono Island Market

Living on Ono Island When buyers ask me about Ono Island, I always tell them the same thing: this is not a one-size-fits-all market. Current property listings on Ono Island range from luxury waterfront homes and canal-front residences to interior homes and vacant lots, with fresh MLS updates continuing into late March 2026. Real Estate Market Comparison

Orange Beach Alabama vs. Destin Florida Real Estate: Where I’d Buy in 2026

Orange Beach Alabama

When buyers ask me to compare Orange Beach and Destin, I always say the same thing: both are beautiful Gulf Coast markets, but they deliver two very different ownership experiences. The right choice depends on whether you care most about value, boating access, rental performance, taxes, or the overall pace of life.

If you are considering a condo, second home, waterfront property, or investment along the Gulf Coast, these two destinations tend to rise to the top quickly. Both are undeniably magnetic. Both offer sugar-white sand, luminous turquoise water, and strong tourism appeal. But from a real estate…

TOP FEATURES TO LOOK FOR IN A GULF COAST HOME WITH CANAL BOAT ACCESS

Gulf Coast Canal Homes with Boat Access Meredith Folger Amon

Top features to look for in a Gulf Coast home with boat access often appear in the first few listing photos and in the MLS notes, so start your search by scanning images and descriptions with purpose. Look for dock type, visible pilings, any stated canal depth, seawall material, and whether a private dock or boat lift appears, since those clues indicate whether the property is boat-ready. Also read seller disclosures and HOA rules for riparian-rights or easement language that can restrict slips, dock repairs, or overnight mooring, and treat leaning pilings, missing permits, undocumented soundings, unusually high flood insurance premiums, or reports of shoaling at a canal…
