Orange Beach Alabama Boating Fishing Billfish Classic

There’s something truly special about living and working in Orange Beach. Beyond the beauty of the Gulf and the charm of our waterfront neighborhoods, it’s the way our coastal lifestyle brings people together—through boating, conservation, and shared traditions. One event that exemplifies this harmony is the Orange Beach Billfish Classic.

It’s more than a tournament—it’s a celebration of what makes Orange Beach feel like home. From the excitement of the weigh-ins to the stories shared at the docks, there’s an unmistakable energy during this event. Fishing teams travel from across the Gulf Coast to compete, but it’s the camaraderie off the water that leaves the biggest impression. The Classic raises money for vital causes, supports our local economy, and reflects the values we hold dear as a community rooted in coastal stewardship.

As someone who often shows properties by boat and spends time around the islands, I have a deep appreciation for the work of the Orange Beach Police Department’s Marine Division. I regularly speak with their officers, and their presence on the water isn’t just about enforcement—it’s about education, protection, and service.

Their patrols around Perdido Pass, Robinson Island, and Walker Island help safeguard some of the most sensitive and trafficked areas along our coast. These zones see everything from family outings to high-speed vessels, and the Marine Division helps maintain the delicate balance between recreation and conservation. Whether they’re guiding vessels through swift tides or ensuring boaters respect no-wake zones, they play a vital role in protecting both people and our natural environment.

Many don’t realize how important these zones are. Certain areas are roped off to protect sea turtle nests or to reduce erosion along fragile sandbars. Others provide sanctuary for dolphins and migratory birds. The officers often serve as educators on the water—reminding us that coastal living comes with shared responsibility.

What always stands out to me is their commitment. These aren’t just officers—they’re our neighbors, friends, and fellow residents. They care deeply about our waters and the people who enjoy them. Their work embodies the very best of community-focused service.

Spending time on and around the water—especially during events like the Billfish Classic—reminds me why I love calling Orange Beach home. Yes, we have stunning beaches and gorgeous homes, but it’s the people and our connection to place that truly define the experience.

 Local Boating Tips from Meredith

These are some helpful reminders I share with clients and friends who explore our waterways:

  • Slow down near Robinson Island and Walker Island
These are popular anchoring and swimming spots. Keep an eye out for paddleboarders and anchored vessels.

  • Be mindful of the current at Perdido Pass
The tides shift quickly—crossing is safest at slack tide, especially for smaller boats.

  • Respect signage near the jetties
These high-traffic areas are patrolled frequently. Speed limits and access zones are in place for safety and habitat protection.

  • Pack it in, pack it out
Whether you’re docking for the afternoon or cruising the Intracoastal, please take all trash with you. Protecting our waters is a shared effort.

Island Beauty: Robinson & Walker Island Photo Gallery

Take a look at some of my favorite shots from around the islands:

  • “Afternoon anchorage at Robinson Island—just minutes from the heart of Orange Beach.”

  • “Walker Island offers peaceful sandbars and a perfect dolphin-watching spot.”

  • “Sunset over the jetties, captured from the edge of Perdido Pass.”

Let’s make your next move your best one yet.
