The Gulf Shores City Council has officially approved a major expansion of golf cart access throughout the Meyer Park area and Gulf Pines neighborhood. This isn’t just a convenience—it’s a meaningful step toward a more connected and accessible coastal lifestyle.

While helping buyers and sellers navigate life on the Gulf Coast, I see firsthand how thoughtful changes like this can enhance quality of life and boost property values. Expanded golf cart access means residents, second homeowners, and guests alike can now move more freely between some of the most cherished parts of town.

Where You Can Now Drive a Golf Cart

Approved routes include a thoughtfully planned network of streets that make it easier to travel between neighborhoods, Meyer Park, Gulf Shores City Schools, and the Gulf Coast Center for Ecotourism & Sustainability. Here’s a summary of the newly approved areas:

  • E Canal Dr (from E 3rd St to the Pedestrian Bridge Plaza)

  • E 24th Ave (E 2nd St to E 10th St)

  • E 23rd Ave (E Gulf Ave to E 2nd St and from E 2nd St to E 10th St)

  • W 22nd & E 22nd Ave (W 1st St to E 10th St)

  • E 21st Ave (E 2nd St to the E 500 block cul-de-sac)

  • Dolphin Ave (400 Dolphin Ave to E 15th Ave)

  • E 15th Ave (E 3rd St to the Ecotourism Center terminus)

  • E Gulf Ave (E 22nd Ave to E 24th Ave)

  • E 3rd St (E 15th Ave to E 16th Ave, and E 21st Ave to Canal Dr)

  • E 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Streets (portions from E 22nd Ave to E 24th Ave; E 5th includes pedestrian-only sections)

Why It Matters

According to the City of Gulf Shores, these new routes stem from a detailed traffic study conducted by Jacobs Engineering, along with collaboration from police, public works, Gulf Shores City Schools, and others. The initiative aligns with the recent completion of the Pedestrian Bridge project and reflects a broader city goal to create safer, more flexible transportation alternatives.

I hear from homeowners and future buyers about their love for the casual, open-air lifestyle golf carts bring. Whether it’s heading to the park, picking up kids from school, or simply cruising to a community event, these routes offer a laid-back alternative to driving.

What the City Is Saying

Mayor Robert Craft summed it up:

“Our residents have expressed a strong interest in having more golf cart access in our neighborhoods, and this initiative is a direct response to that feedback. Expanding these routes is an important step toward enhancing connectivity and providing additional transportation options beyond traditional vehicles.”

If you’re thinking about purchasing a home in the Gulf Shores area—or considering selling—I’d be happy to talk about how these kinds of neighborhood improvements can impact your real estate goals.
