There is something deeply exciting about watching a new home rise on Ono Island.

I took this photo during the construction phase, and what immediately caught my eye was not just the pretty metal roof, the clean coastal architecture, or the elevated living space. It was the yellow temporary drying ducts running into the home. To many people, those ducts may look like ordinary construction equipment. There are certain moments on Ono Island that stop me in my tracks.

A couple of days ago, I was at the newly improved Ono Island boat launch when I looked up and saw this osprey nest — active, alive, and beautifully positioned above one of the places that means so much to our boating community. With wings stretched wide against that brilliant blue Gulf Coast sky, this osprey seemed to capture exactly what I love about living here: strength, instinct, water, wilderness, and home.
