Blue, My Sweet Springer Spaniel
December 30, 2025

I am writing this for one reason: so I can always come back to these photos and remember the details that matter. The small moments. The ordinary days that, somehow, become the most extraordinary memories.
I will never forget making the trip with my daughter to Nebraska to pick him up as a puppy. His eyes were a beautiful and sweet ice blue, the kind of blue that stopped you mid-sentence. Even then, he felt gentle. He looked at us like he already understood that we belonged to each other.
Blue is probably the sweetest dog I have ever had. He loved the mountains and he loved the beach, and he carried the same simple joy in both places. Snow on his coat, sand on his paws, wind in his ears, it never mattered. What mattered to him was the run, the scent trail, the next little adventure.

He was happiest when he could chase critters and then come right back, as if to say, I just needed to check on that, and now I am ready to be with you again. He would return with that smile on his face, sweet loving eyes, and a kiss if we would let him.
Here on the Gulf Coast, I spend so much time writing about the places we love, the water, the light, the way a home can hold a life. Blue was part of that rhythm.
If you are ever browsing and daydreaming about life along Orange Beach or Ono Island, my favorite starting point is always www.searchthegulf.com. I like having one place where the memories and the possibilities can live side by side.

Blue will be missed. I will miss him in the ways you do not expect: the sound of his paws, the way he watched the world, the quiet loyalty that filled a room without asking for anything in return.
Rest easy, sweet Blue.
