Creel Limits for Popular Fish Species

Understanding the current creel limits is essential for responsible and legal fishing. Below are the regulations for some of the most sought-after species in Alabama and Florida waters:

Alabama:

  • Red Snapper: The 2025 season is set to open on May 23 and will be open seven days a week until June 30. Starting July 4, the season will transition to four-day weekends (Friday to Monday) until the quota is met. The daily bag limit is 2 per person with a minimum size of 16 inches. ​

  • Amberjack: Season is open from September 1 to October 31, 2025. The daily bag limit is 1 per person with a minimum size of 34 inches fork length. ​

  • King Mackerel: No closed season. The daily bag limit is 2 per person with a minimum size of 24 inches fork length. ​

  • Spanish Mackerel: No closed season. The daily bag limit is 15 per person with a minimum size of 12 inches fork length. ​

  • Grouper (Gag): Season is open from June 1 to December 31. The daily bag limit is 2 per person within the 4-grouper aggregate, with a minimum size of 24 inches total length. ​
