Unincorporated Yet Well-Served
While Ono Island is unincorporated and not technically part of the town of Orange Beach, we benefit from Orange Beach water services and police support, ensuring dependable infrastructure and safety. Additionally, Ono Island has its own dedicated fire department, providing another layer of security and peace of mind for residents.
Schools for Ono Island Residents
It’s important to note that the island is not part of the Orange Beach school system. Children here are zoned for schools in Foley, but can apply to Orange Beach schools. If accepted, they pay a tuition fee for access to these schools.
Amenities That Set Ono Island Apart
One of the highlights of Ono Island is the incredible amenities available to residents. The clubhouse, located in "Ono North," features:
- Outdoor tennis courts, pickleball courts, and a basketball court.
- A cardio area, weight room, and a heated indoor pool.
- An outdoor pool and wading pool.
Boaters will appreciate the boat launch with two ramps, conveniently located across the street from the fire station and the HCC. The HCC is more than just a meeting space—it’s the heart of the island, hosting HOA meetings and a variety of events, including monthly steak nights, Ladies’ Club, Men’s Club, Bible study, Garden Club, and more.

Waterfront Living: North Shore vs. South Shore
When it comes to waterfront living, Ono Island offers two distinct experiences. The North Shore provides access to big, deep water on Bayou St. John, ideal for larger boats and those seeking direct access to prime boating waters. Homes on the South Shore, located on Ole River, are nestled near shallow waters, making them perfect for those who enjoy mingling with fellow boaters in the summer months. This area, near the bridge and the iconic Flora-Bama, is a popular spot for relaxation and socializing on the water.

POA Fees, Fire Authority, recreation center, and The $8,000 Transfer Fee
Ono Island property owners contribute annual dues to maintain the island’s exceptional services and amenities. The Ono Island Property Owners Association (POA) dues are approximately $2,000 per year, while the Fire Authority dues are around $1,000 per year, ensuring the continued operation of the island’s independent fire department. For properties located in Ono North, an annual membership to the recreation center is required, while properties outside of Ono North have the option to join for $500 per year. Additionally, buyers should be aware of the $8,000 transfer fee paid at the time of purchase of house or vacant land, which supports the upkeep of the island's infrastructure and amenities. These fees collectively contribute to the quality of life that makes Ono Island such a sought-after community.
