From Ono Island to Gulf State Park: A Scenic Coastal Drive Through Orange Beach, Alabama
By Meredith Amon, Licensed in Alabama and Florida
I recently filmed a quick video that highlights just how convenient and scenic the drive is from Ono Island to Gulf State Park—and I have to say, it’s one of my favorite routes along the Gulf Coast. Whether you’re a homeowner on Ono Island or considering a vacation property in Orange Beach, this stretch of road perfectly illustrates how connected and accessible everything is here.
From public beach access points to luxury condominiums and new construction projects, this drive gives you a front-row seat to the coastal lifestyle we all love so much.
Starting at Ono Island: Coastal Convenience at Its Best
Leaving Ono Island, you’ll pass through the secure, private gates and cross the bridge onto Ono Boulevard, quickly reaching Canal Road and connecting to Highway 182 (Perdido Beach Boulevard). Within just a few minutes, you’ll find yourself driving past some of the most beautiful water features and landmarks in Orange Beach.
Passing Shell Beach, Alabama Point & Perdido Pass
Our first few stops along the way include:
-
Shell Beach — A quiet stretch of sand beloved by locals
-
Alabama Point — Known for its stunning views and clear water
-
Perdido Pass — The gateway between the Gulf and back bays, and a popular fishing and boating hub
This section of the drive shows just how close the public beach access is for Ono Island homeowners—making it easy to enjoy both private island living and quick access to Gulf-front recreation.
Condo Communities and Public Beach Access
As we continue west on Perdido Beach Boulevard, you’ll see many of the luxury condo developments that make Orange Beach such a desirable place for second homes, rentals, or investment properties.
Highlights along the way include:
-
Cotton Bayou Public Beach Access — Ample parking and a great central location
-
Romar Beach Public Access — Ideal for a peaceful day on the sand
-
Phoenix Condos — Including Phoenix V, VI, VII, and Phoenix East, popular for their rental potential and Gulf-front views
-
Turquoise Place — One of the most iconic luxury towers in Orange Beach, known for its glass architecture and private hot tubs on every balcony
-
The Bluffs at Orange Beach — An exclusive, low-density Gulf-front condominium with privacy and elegance
-
The Coastal Restaurant — A popular spot to dine and watch the waves roll in
-
New construction condos — Several exciting developments are currently underway, offering pre-construction opportunities for those looking to get in early on luxury beachfront living
The Final Stretch to Gulf State Park
The drive ends at Gulf State Park, a beloved destination with miles of trails, beautiful dunes, and one of the best-maintained public beaches in the region. It’s a favorite among both locals and visitors—and it’s only a short drive from the quiet elegance of Ono Island.
