Ono Island Orange Beach Alabama Homes For Sale

As a full-time resident and real estate advisor specializing in Ono Island properties, I’m often asked what kind of utilities are available on the island—and how they differ from mainland neighborhoods in Orange Beach. Here’s what you need to know if you’re considering buying, building, or investing in this one-of-a-kind private island community.

Underground Utilities

Ono Island is thoughtfully developed with underground utilities throughout the neighborhood. This preserves the natural beauty of the area, protects utility lines from storm damage, and enhances the unobstructed coastal aesthetic that draws so many buyers to the island. Electricity is provided by Baldwin EMC, and City of Orange Beach oversees the water and sewer systems.

Propane, Not Natural Gas

As of 2025, natural gas is not available on Ono Island. However, propane is widely used for gas ranges, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, and whole-house generators. Propane tanks—either above or underground—are installed on properties during construction or retrofitted later by certified professionals.

Most kitchens on Ono Island come equipped with electric ranges, which is the default for many custom builders. That said, I work closely with reputable local builders who can guide homeowners through the process of integrating propane into your home design or converting from electric if you prefer gas cooking.

Wells for Irrigation

Several homeowners on Ono Island have installed private wells for landscape irrigation. This can help reduce monthly water bills and is a great solution for maintaining healthy lawns and gardens in our warm, coastal climate. While wells are optional, many owners with larger lots or extensive landscaping find this to be a valuable utility feature.

Wi-Fi, Cable, and Fiber Internet

Modern connectivity is a must, and Ono Island delivers. Most homes have access to fiber internet through providers such as Mediacom and CenturyLink. Service speeds vary by location, but many areas support high-speed internet, streaming, smart home devices, and full home office setups.

If you're working remotely or depend on reliable internet for smart technology, I'm happy to help you determine which homes have the strongest options based on location within the island.

Trash, Recycling, and Security

  • Trash & Recycling: Weekly curbside pickup is managed through local waste services.

  • Security: Ono Island is a gated community with 24-hour staffed security at the entrance. The island also has its own private security patrol.

  • Storm Drainage: Advanced drainage systems and underground utility planning help minimize flood risk and promote sustainability.

Living on Ono Island is not just about beautiful homes—it’s also about peace of mind, infrastructure, and thoughtful planning. If you’re ready to explore Ono Island homes or want to know more about how to integrate utilities into your new construction or renovation plans, I’d love to be your guide.
