Why I Keep Returning to Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya
Today is my last day at Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. Tomorrow, I am returning home to the Gulf Coast — back to Orange Beach, Ono Island, and the waterways I love so much.
I have been to this resort approximately ten times, and every time I come back, I am reminded why I keep returning. Puerto Aventuras has a peaceful marina lifestyle, beautiful Caribbean water, easy walkability, and that relaxed waterfront rhythm that always speaks to me.
Some places are worth visiting once. Others quietly become part of your life.
A Coastal Community That Feels Familiar
Puerto Aventuras is a gated marina community between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. The marina, restaurants, boats, beaches, and tropical landscaping create a setting that feels both refined and relaxed.
As much as I enjoy being here, I have to admit — I miss Orange Beach. I miss the Gulf, the back bays, the familiar waterways, and the boating lifestyle that makes home feel like home. I am looking forward to returning tomorrow.
There is something about living near the water that connects coastal destinations around the world. Whether I am watching boats in Puerto Aventuras or seeing a Viking, Hatteras, Freeman, Invincible, or Caymas heading out from Orange Beach, I feel that same pull toward the water.

The Dreams Resort Experience
Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya has become a place I return to because it feels easy. The resort offers beautiful pools, several restaurants, entertainment, tropical views, and a marina setting that makes every day feel connected to the water.
One of my favorite spots is the open-air palapa bar with swing seating. It is casual, breezy, and memorable — the kind of place where you sit down for a few minutes and end up staying much longer than planned.
Nearby Excursions and Activities
There are wonderful activities nearby, and we almost booked an excursion during this trip. Unfortunately, our stay was shortened unexpectedly, and we have to get back to the Gulf sooner than planned.
One option we considered was the adult-only Isla Mujeres excursion. This trip involves approximately a 1.5-hour drive to Cancun, followed by about 20–25 minutes of sailing, roughly 20 minutes of snorkeling, and then another short boat ride to Isla Mujeres. After lunch and about two hours to explore the island independently, guests return by boat to Cancun before driving back to Puerto Aventuras.
From what I understand, this excursion is less about long boat time and more about seeing the stunning water around Isla Mujeres, enjoying lunch, and spending time exploring the island. Everyone says the water there is beautiful, and there is typically less seaweed in that area.
The second option leaves directly from the marina in Puerto Aventuras and is much more boat-focused. This excursion includes approximately four hours of sailing and snorkeling in the local area, with lunch included. For someone like me who loves being on the water, that option sounded especially appealing because there is more time boating and less time driving.
For me, the best excursions are usually the ones that keep me closest to the water.
Transportation to and from the airport was very easy through Amstar, and Amstar also assists with booking excursions. That convenience made the trip feel smooth from the moment we arrived.
Why I Keep Coming Back
After approximately ten visits, I know what I love about Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya. I love the marina setting, the ease of the resort, the tropical landscaping, the food, the Preferred Club experience, and the ability to slow down for a few days.
Still, travel always reminds me how much I love home. I enjoy Puerto Aventuras, but my heart is on the Gulf Coast. I miss the rhythm of Orange Beach, the quiet beauty of Ono Island, the marinas, the boat docks, the sunsets, and the people who make our coastal community so special.
Tomorrow, I will return home refreshed and grateful — grateful for this getaway, and equally grateful to live where I do.
Simplicity is the ultimate luxury — and sometimes the greatest luxury is realizing how much you love coming home.
