WHY I LOVE S&S SEAFOOD MARKET AND KITCHEN IN GULF SHORES, ALABAMA

I stopped into S&S Seafood Market and Kitchen in Gulf Shores, thinking I would simply pick up a fresh filet of fish to take home. I chose a beautiful piece of tripletail that had been caught the day before. As I was paying, they asked me, “Would you like us to cook it for you?”

I think I paused for a second and said something along the lines of, “Wait, really?”

They explained that they could steam it, grill it, or fry it. I chose grilled with Greek seasoning, and it was absolutely delicious. Fresh, fast, simple, reasonably priced, and exactly the kind of meal that feels pitch-perfect after a busy day showing property near the water.

S&S Seafood Market and Kitchen is not just a seafood market. It is also a place where you can take the seafood you select and have it prepared for you, which is such a wonderful convenience. It is also described as carryout only, with catering available and a seasonal operating schedule. 

That carryout concept is part of the charm. It is casual, practical, and very Gulf Coast. You can stop in after the beach, after a showing appointment, before heading back to your condo, or before gathering at the house with friends and neighbors.

One of the things that stood out to me immediately was the ability to select fresh fish and have it cooked right then and there. The menu includes fish options such as grouper, snapper, mahi mahi, triggerfish, and other seasonal options, with grilled or fried preparation available. The menu features options such as Cajun, blackened, or Greek seasoning. 

My tripletail with Greek seasoning was fresh, flaky, and flavorful without being heavy. That is exactly how I like seafood along the coast. When the fish is fresh, it does not need to be complicated.

There is something so coastal and convenient about being able to buy seafood and have it prepared on the spot. For homeowners, second-home owners, and visitors staying in Gulf Shores, it makes dinner feel effortless.

S&S also has fabulous prepared foods. These are the kinds of items I love to keep in mind when someone wants something easy, local, and delicious without having to sit down for a long restaurant meal.

My personal tip: If you are staying on West Beach or nearby in Gulf Shores, this is the kind of place I would keep on your short list. Pick up fresh seafood, have it cooked, add a few sides and sauces, and you have a relaxed coastal dinner without the wait.

I always pay attention to sauces because they can make a simple seafood dinner feel more complete. S&S offers homemade sauces including cocktail, remoulade, tartar, sweet heat, butter, and garlic butter. 

That gives you options depending on what you order. Grilled fish with garlic butter, fried shrimp with remoulade, oysters with cocktail sauce, crab cakes with tartar or sweet heat — it is easy to build a meal around whatever sounds good that day.

S&S also offers family-style platters with names like Bow and Stern, The Outrigger, Going Topside, and Port and Starboard.
