Living on Ono Island offers countless little moments of peace, but one of my favorite ways to unwind and reconnect with the beauty around me is by taking a bike ride along Peninsula Drive. Just the other evening, with the sun beginning to dip and the air still warm from the day, I joined a dear friend and neighbor for a leisurely ride through one of the most scenic stretches of the island—the Harbour.
As a full-time homeowner and real estate advisor on Ono Island, I never take for granted how magical this place is. And every time I bike down Peninsula Drive, I’m reminded why this is my favorite street on the entire island.
Peninsula Drive: Where Nature, Water, and Architecture Meet
The quiet, winding layout of Peninsula Drive is perfectly designed for a slow ride. As we pedaled past Ono Harbour, I couldn’t help but take in the views—the wide marshes stretching out toward the water, the stillness of the harbor, and the way the elegant coastal homes reflect the light just before sunset.
This part of the island feels like a world of its own. The homes are beautiful but understated, each with its own architectural flair. From expansive porches to private boat docks, many of the properties here enjoy deep water access and some of the most tranquil views you’ll find on the island.
My friend, who’s lived on Ono Island for years, turned to me and said, “I never get tired of this view.” And I couldn’t agree more. From the marsh grasses swaying in the breeze to the soft hum of distant boat motors, Peninsula Drive feels like a front-row seat to the best of Gulf Coast living.
A Haven for Wildlife and Water Enthusiasts
As we continued our ride, we passed a few neighbors out for a walk, and I noticed several herons and egrets in the distance, wading near the shoreline. These marshes are alive with birds and marine life, which makes this stretch of the island a favorite for nature lovers and photographers.
But it’s also perfect for boaters and paddleboarders, thanks to the protected harbor and easy access to Bayou St. John and Perdido Pass. Many homes along Peninsula Drive are equipped with private boat slips, allowing homeowners to spend more time on the water and less time trailering or launching their boats.
For those who love early morning fishing trips or sunset cruises, this is the kind of address that makes every day feel like a vacation.

Ono Island isn’t just about the homes—it’s about the lifestyle. Quiet evenings, friendly waves from neighbors, and peaceful bike rides like this one are part of daily life here. Peninsula Drive, in particular, captures the spirit of the island with its natural beauty, elegant waterfront homes, and sense of community.
After our ride, we paused near the harbor and watched the last boats return for the day. It was one of those moments that felt suspended in time—quiet, meaningful, and distinctly Ono.
